Norman recently collaborated with the Innovation Hub for Affordable Heating and Cooling (i-Hub)* to test how efficient our range of honeycomb shades are at reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. We tested our shades in an aged care facility north of Brisbane and the results were amazing!
The tests showed an average reduction in heat transfer of 56% when using a honeycomb shade. The installation of the shades and correct usage was estimated to save the facility over $10,000 each year in energy costs.
Honeycomb shades come in varying cell sizes with a choice between single, double or triple layers. There is a clear correlation between the size and number of cells of the blind and a reduction in heat transfer. The more cells, the better insulated your window will be.
Another factor to consider is the time of day you raise or lower your blinds. Keeping your blinds closed on those really hot or really cold days will reduce your energy costs even further.
